Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a branch of experimental psychology based on the scientific study of behavior, and uses systematic methods of assessing and designing interventions for behavior change. It is based on the philosophy that an individual\u2019s behavior is determined (learned) by past and current environmental events; thus ABA focuses on explaining behavior in terms of external events that can be observed and modified. Our goal is to identify and change environmental events that serve to trigger and maintain behaviors of concern through methods that have been proven empirically to decrease problem behaviors and increase appropriate behaviors. ABA involves the direct observation of behavior, data collection and analysis, and the development of interventions that are designed to increase, decrease, or maintain behavior.\n<\/p>\n
\nABA is unique in its emphasis on the utilization of reinforcement-based strategies to reduce problem behavior. It utilizes a learning based approach by increasing specific skills that work to change the social environment to decrease motivation for problem behavior and to increase access to social and other reinforcers which themselves are contingent upon demonstration and maintenance of appropriate behavior.\n<\/p>\n
